| In July 2006, the European Community brought into force the Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS), which sets strict limits on the amounts of Lead, Mercury, Hexavalent Chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyls, and Cadmium used in the manufacturing process.
To allow manufacturers to complete an upgrade of their equipment to reduce these hazardous substances, two levels of RoHS standards were put in place. RoHS level 5 requires all the components used on an assembly meet the stringent limitations of the hazardous substances, but allowed the continued use of lead based solder.
Allied Telesis upgraded the majority of our in-house manufacturing facilities to allow the use of lead-free solder. This involved re-designing all of our Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), as the adhesive and fluid properties of the new solder differ greatly from that of older lead based solder. All of the PCBs produced in our facilities using the lead-free solder conform to RoHS level 6.
