Allied Telesis’ AT-XEM-2XP Doubles 10G Capability in Advanced Layer 3 Switches
SAN JOSE, Calif., February 26, 2010 – Allied Telesis, a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet switching solutions and an industry leader in the deployment of IP Triple-Play networks, has launched the AT-XEM-2XP dual port 10G expansion module for its x900 series and SwitchBlade® x908 advanced Layer 3 switches to increase network size and resiliency. The easy-to-deploy module gives network managers the ability to expand network capacity quickly and cost effectively without investing in a full-scale network upgrade.
The AT-XEM-2XP has been developed to allow network managers to easily upgrade their existing networks, without the need for extensive and expensive network downtime or engineering service call-outs. The module is designed to work with the AlliedWare Plus™ operating system in conjunction with the existing range of Allied Telesis switches: the AT-SBx908 with eight XEM slots, the AT-x900-24XS with two XEM slots, the AT-x900-24XT with two XEM slots, and the AT-x900-12XT/S with one XEM slot.
“The AT-XEM-2XP dual-port module works specifically with the x900 series and AT-SBx908, which are existing popular products,” said Nikul Sheth, product manager at Allied Telesis. “Installing the AT-XEM-2XP with an x900 family switch is an innovative way to enhance network resilience at the network edge. Allied Telesis understands in today’s economy it is not only important to have reliable products, but affordable products as well—w hich is why the AT-XEM-2XP is positioned at a cost-effective price point.”
An AT-x900 family switch fitted with two AT-XEM-2XP modules, connected to a redundant core network, can survive a failure of any of the links or XEM modules while still maintaining network connectivity. At the network core, the AT-XEM-2XP increases the functionality of the AT-SBx908 switch by doubling its port density – allowing network managers to easily upgrade and increase the size of their networks.
Each XEM slot is capable of supporting up to 60Gbps bandwidth and its architecture is optimized for 2x 10G throughput in non-blocking mode. Using the AT-XEM-2XP in the high-density AT-SBx908 chassis doubles the capacity of 10G interfaces supported by a single chassis from 8 to 16. Two chassis can also be stacked, increasing the number of 10G interfaces from 16 to 32.
The AT-XEM-2XP is available across the North America beginning this month. The product retails at $5029.
